sustainable waste management

Plastics: Waste plastics are an important topic. The knowledge of the composition of waste plastic streams is important in order to develop the right procedure for taking it out of circulation by methods other than landfilling it or incineration, which are no longer considered good options.

Biomass: Wastes from agricultural large-scale production tend to be incinerated on the field, which adds to the increasing problem of carbon dioxide emissions. Instead, one can consider turning them into valuable products or as a source of heat generation which could help to decrease the consumption of fossil fuels.

Research aimed at sustainable management of waste is performed in collaboration with professor Donald W. Kirk, University of Toronto.
